Now the sculpture is finally on display in Salford again. Ordsall Hall Postcode for SatNav: M5 3AN. There is a car park in the grounds of the hall. The hall is signposted from most major roads in the area and is less than one mile from the end of the M602 motorway. The sculpture was then in the process of being restored by the Salford-based artist Noah Rose, with Heritage Lottery funding, and was due to be installed in the grounds of medieval stately home Ordsall Hall later that year.ĭuring lockdown, I frequently walked past Ordsall Hall to see if there was any sign of the sculpture, but it had been delayed due to unforeseen complications in the process. The hall is situated in the Ordsall District of Salford on Ordsall Lane, near to Salford Quays. In the summer of 2019, I went to visit Gail Skelly at Ordsall Community Arts and had a really good chat about the work of Ordsall Community Arts and their ongoing community and heritage project to celebrate and find a new home for the peacock in Ordsall. Originally commissioned for a new school in the dockside area of Ordsall, inner-city Salford in the early 1960s, Hermes’ bronze Peacock spent years in storage at Ordsall Community Arts after the closure and demolition of the school in the 1980s.

It's been really nice to finally be able to update and finish an article I wrote about Gertrude Hermes' Ordsall Peacock sculpture, an article (and a restoration project!) which has been a really long while in the making.
